Deming Li earned a Ph.D. in Biology from Cornell University in the United States, and later became a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Wisconsin, also in the United States. She went on to become a researcher at the Michigan Institute in the United States and a member of the North American Blueberry Association. She has also been a distinguished professor at two different institutions of Nanjing Agricultural University in China: the Institute of Bioenergy and Resources, and the Marine Bioactive Substances Engineering Center.
